WORKPLACE SAFETY STANDARDS: WHAT PROTECTION CLASS FOR SAFETY FOOTWEAR?
Handbook on the classification of safety standards for work footwear
format(avif))
Safety is at the forefront. Always!
To choose the right shoe for our needs it is essential to be clear what we need and what needs we must cope.
This is why awareness is a fundamental prerogative, otherwise, we will let ourselves be guided only by the aesthetic sense or by some "tip" received from friends or read on the web risking to buy a product that does not fit our real needs.
The differences are not only aesthetic but rather functional and it is therefore very important to have clear what are the essential parameters of protection in order to work in absolute tranquility.
How are safety shoes classified?
Work shoes are identified by an alphanumeric code that indicates the European safety standards they comply with. Here are the characteristics of the main classifications:
SB work shoes:
These are basic safety shoes, which differ from everyday shoes in that they have a reinforced steel toe cap to protect the toes from falling heavy objects and an oil-resistant sole.
S1/S1P work shoes:
In addition to toe protection, these shoes have a sole that is slip-resistant not only for oils but also for hydrocarbons. Furthermore, the heel area is structured to absorb shocks and thus protect against the effects of impact. If a P appears next to the S1 code, this means that the shoe also has a special anti-perforation insole.
S2 work shoes:
The S2 code indicates that water-repellent protection is also added, but not total waterproofing against liquids.
S3 work shoes:
In addition to the features listed above, these shoes have an anti-perforation insole for safe working on uneven ground and construction sites.
Then there are the S4 and S5 safety standards, which are totally waterproof – these shoes are made of rubber and polymeric materials – and can withstand immersion in water. The former are equipped with reinforced toe caps, non-slip soles and anti-cut protection.
LUPOS® offers a wide range of safety footwear that fully complies with all safety regulations and also provides two additional guarantees:
Slip resistance, tested according to specific standards for resistance on ceramic surfaces covered with water and steel surfaces covered with glycerine, indicated by the SRC symbol.
Electrostatic and electromagnetic protection, which places all our products in the additional ESD classification.
LUPOS® is synonymous with safety, without ever forgetting the parameters of comfort and well-being, which are essential to ensure a prolonged sense of relief throughout the day.
Because to give your best at work, you need to feel good, and to feel good you need to have the right “tools”, such as:
