SMELLY SAFETY SHOES: HOW TO PREVENT ODORS FROM FORMING

Lupos® tips for avoiding the unpleasant problem of smelly work shoes

15 November 2019

Safety shoes that give off annoying and unpleasant odors? Unfortunately, it's a common and recurring problem, but stop and think for a moment...

Our feet have 28 bones, 27 joints, 100 ligaments, 23 muscles, a nervous system, and a highly branched capillary system. And, unfortunately, they also produce a large amount of sweat, which promotes the growth of bacteria. These bacteria, favored by the warm, humid environment created inside shoes, can cause unpleasant odors. The correct term for this condition is plantar bromhodosis.

The problem is that a closed shoe (let alone a safety shoe designed to protect our extremities!) slows and hinders the foot's normal breathing, creating ideal conditions for the proliferation of germs.

How to deal with this very annoying nuisance?

There is a wide selection of safety shoes on the market, and at first glance they all seem similar, but in reality there are significant differences between the various types, and it's crucial to be aware of them.

In this article, we'll try to provide information on how to avoid or reduce this problem and how to choose the right safety shoe for this type of problem.

LUPOS® has always been committed to creating work footwear that takes into account safety and protection needs, comfort, attractive shape, fashion trends, and a reasonable cost-to-durability ratio, while always maintaining a high level of product quality. And we've always been attentive to foot health!

For this reason, all work shoes in our line feature a lining with the innovative Wind3D system, a highly breathable system with an innovative air tunnel design for improved moisture dispersion.

Additionally, many of our models also feature an antibacterial lining to combat the formation of odor-causing germs.

Regardless of the work shoe you choose, there are some additional tips we can share.

• Choose safety shoes with ultra-breathable linings and antibacterial treatments, and if possible, avoid wearing them for two days in a row. It's best to have two pairs of work shoes available and alternate between them.

Change your socks as soon as you take off your work shoes.

• Use breathable socks: some athletic or work socks have breathable features to keep your feet dry, and antibacterial socks are formulated with substances that discourage odor-producing bacteria that feed on sweat.

• Maintain consistent foot hygiene, with frequent washing and short, clean toenails.

• Use a specific deodorant.

If the problem persists, we recommend consulting a doctor who can direct you to a specific antibacterial soap or indicate an appropriate therapy to limit the problem.
