CLEAN AND AFFORDABLE ENERGY: GERMANY LEADS TO EUROPE'S ENERGY
A look at the clean and renewable electricity sector
format(avif))
Germany is well-known worldwide for producing cars from the most famous brands such as Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, as well as Volkswagen, and for the more playful Oktoberfest and its incredible variety of beer production. It is also known for its brilliant composers - Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, etc.- but perhaps not everyone knows that it is also a superpower in clean energy.
The transition began in the 1990s and has led to a completely green production. Last May 1st, we achieved a record level of meeting the country's total demand with electricity generation exclusively from renewable sources. This is a success to be truly proud of, and it positions us as a trendsetter for climate solutions.
What are the main steps that led us to this record, not only nationally but also in Europe and worldwide?
1. Between 1990 and 2016, we reduced total greenhouse gas emissions by 27.4%, despite a 50.5% increase in GDP;
2. In 2017, we generated 36% of our electricity with clean energy, a 4% increase over 2016;
3. We are among the top three countries in solar photovoltaic energy production, and on some sunny and windy days, clean energy can supply nearly 100% of the entire nation's daily electricity needs;
4. Wind energy is the country's second-largest source of electricity, accounting for 18.8% of Germany's combined energy supply. This means that at the end of 2017, domestic energy prices went negative, and consumers were paid to use it thanks to low demand (!).
5. The government has set strong targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and forecasts are -40% compared to 1990 levels by 2020 and -95% by 2050.
6. Our forecasts are to reduce primary energy consumption by 20% compared to 2008 levels by 2020 and by 50% by 2050.
7. The population supports clean energy: 95% of Germans rate the expansion of renewable energy as important or extremely important.
And when eco-sustainability goes from "trend" to "cultural imprint," then professional profiles also change.
Today's job market demands highly technical professionals with knowledge of the ecosystem to manage sustainable construction processes or green architecture.
This is transforming the traditional roles of architects and engineers, as well as freelancers who, to be at the forefront, must be able to manage project cycles, participating in acoustic, atmospheric, and environmental assessments, without neglecting regulatory aspects. It is essential to know how to harmoniously plan the landscape, taking into account all natural elements.
Workplace safety parameters, however, remain unchanged, and professionals in the sector have a legal and moral obligation to work safely, wearing appropriate clothing and the right safety footwear. And this is where LUPOS® comes in, because we have always been synonymous with Quality and Safety.
Our philosophy is inspired by the power of the four elements: Fire, Air, Water, and Earth. In perfect harmony with the green concept of respect for the environment, drawing from the same elements the principles of strength that we base on innovative and cutting-edge technologies to respond and address their power in the best possible conditions.
Our work shoes are ideal for any situation and meet all the parameters specified in European safety regulations. But that's not all, because work shoes—worn for many hours a day—must also provide comfort, which is essential for performing at your best. When your coworkers rely on you and your presence, when your contribution is essential, you must be in the best possible condition.
Rely on the expertise and professionalism of LUPOS® with confidence and peace of mind. Put our safety shoes to the test!
